Biography

Amanda completed her Master of Environmental Management at Duke University (Energy Concentration) and her PhD in Energy Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her doctoral research used life cycle assessment and ethnographic field work to evaluate the environmental and social impacts of policies for sustainable and just energy transitions, with a specific focus on impacts in low- and middle-income countries. Her recent postdoctoral work has assessed the local impacts of repurposing abandoned oil and gas wells for geothermal heat extraction. At Michigan, she is hoping to support interdisciplinary work combatting energy poverty and supporting economic development in historically marginalized communities and to gain greater experiences in topics like AI and energy, nuclear energy (particularly fusion), and other emerging technologies.
