Biography

Dr. Xuan Zhou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he also directs the Laboratory for Advanced Energy Storage and Application (LAESA). His research focuses on battery technology, energy storage systems, smart grids, and hybrid/electric vehicles, with expertise in solid-state lithium-ion batteries, optical battery sensing, and second-life battery applications—supported by over $10 million in competitive funding.

Dr. Zhou is a prolific contributor to peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and editorial boards. He leads UM-Dearborn’s involvement in the DOE Battery Workforce Challenge and collaborates widely across disciplines to advance innovation and workforce development. His honors include the UM-Dearborn Distinguished Research Team Award (2025), Kettering University’s Outstanding Teaching Award (2020), Outstanding New Researcher Award (2016), and the 2014 Faculty Research Fellowship for battery development.
