Biography
Madeleine Krol is the Clean Energy Land Use Specialist at Graham’s Center for EmPowering Communities. In her role, she bridges research and practice in the siting of utility-scale renewables. Through U-M’s partnership with Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Madeleine leads the Renewable Energy Academy program, where she develops educational opportunities and provides individual technical assistance to local governments on planning and zoning for large-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems.
Additionally, Madeleine is involved in DOE-funded research projects that focus on understanding the adoption of solar energy zoning in six Great Lakes states, analyzing trends in large-scale solar land ownership across rural America, and supporting Michigan’s R-STEP program.
Passionate about capacity building, rural prosperity, and comprehensive land use planning to advance community goals, she joined Graham in 2022. She brings experience in managing local government energy and sustainability initiatives and holds both a master's and bachelor's degree in spatial planning from the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany.
