Signing Bonuses for PhD Student Applicants
IES offers signing bonuses to encourage exceptional admitted PhD students in energy (broadly defined) to choose the University of Michigan. The $1,000 signing bonus is paid directly to students when they arrive on campus to start their program. Each U-M faculty member may select one admitted PhD student per year to nominate for a signing bonus. In receiving the bonus, the student also has the opportunity to join IES’ multidisciplinary community of faculty, staff, and students, including through invitations to IES events.
Interested faculty should complete the IES Signing Bonus request form for up to one admitted PhD student applicant. The request form should be completed after the professor makes an offer and before the student accepts or rejects the offer.
